Permits are issued to Certified Emission Repair Technicians to allow them to drive vehicles without current registration on public roadways in order to complete repairs requiring drive-cycle testing for OBD-II sensor readiness purposes.

Permit periods range from one to five years so that permit expiration coincides with the expiration of ASE-L1 or DEEP certification.
$25 per year; fees of $25 to $125 are charged, depending on the length of permit period (1-5 years).
