Emergency Release Notification

Reporting of chemical releases/spills

Emergency release of a listed chemical above its designated Reportable Quantity requires immediate notification to DNREC and others, and possibly a written follow-up release report.

Term

Any spilling, leaking, pumping, pouring, emitting, emptying, discharging, injecting, escaping, leaching, dumping, or disposing into the environment (including the abandonment of or discarding of barrels, containers, and other closed receptacles) of any listed substance that exceeds the reportable quantity is considered an emergency release. Emergency release of a listed chemical above its designated Reportable Quantity requires immediate notification, and possibly a written follow-up release report.
